WHEN TO BOOK YOUR PORTRAIT SESSION
The best time to photograph a newborn session is between 6-14 days old. At this age, they are very sleepy, tiny and can curl into beautiful newborn poses. It is ideal to book your session during your pregnancy to avoid missing out. Once booked, I will schedule in your due date on my calendar. As soon as your little one arrives, we can confirm a time and date that suits. For all other portrait sessions please allow at least four weeks to secure your preferred date.
Newborn sessions are held in the morning at my home studio in Henley Brook (35 minutes North East from the CBD). I allow 2-4 hours for newborn sessions which gives plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and posing in a relaxed environment. Maternity, children and family sessions are generally 1-2 hours and are held at a chosen location during golden hour when the light is amazing. Depending on the season the time will usually be in the hour or two before sunset. Baby and children sessions may also be held in studio upon request.
On location sessions are held at a place of your choice that has meaning or significance to you as a family. It may be the beach, a park, the bush, the river, the city... This list is endless. I believe the setting can help create such emotion and connection within your images if you are at a place you love. I have many locations that I use and I am more than happy to make suggestions to help you find the best place that is right for you and your family.
WHAT TO WEAR
I believe that clients should select their clothing based on their own style and what they are most comfortable in. I suggest keeping it simple and start with a colour palette of neutrals and build on from there. Add a pop of colour/s by using layers, textures and accessories. The main rule I have is to avoid logos, graphics, branding. These can date your portraits and take the focus away from you and your family's expressions and connections. If you would like help or suggestions on colour palette's or clothing ideas, please don't hesitate to ask. I have written a blog post on this and the link is attached here for you.
WHAT TO BRING
Feel free to bring anything that has significant meaning to you or props that you would like to include. Umbrellas, teddies, bubbles... However, just like the clothing it is best to keep things simple and let the subjects shine.
Within 2 weeks of your session, you will be sent details for you to view your online gallery. I will go through with you different product options customised to your gallery. Once full payment is received, prints and products will be ordered. Please allow up to three weeks for your final order to be ready.
